Fowler White is the only South Florida law firm selected as a member in ALFA International. Founded in 1980, ALFA is the oldest and largest American based non-profit association of law firms operating worldwide. All member firms are independently operated from a management, operational ownership, and financial viewpoint, providing the benefits of an "international law capability" without affecting the independence of its individual member firms. Membership is by invitation only.

There are about 120 ALFA member firms located in 49 American states with offices in 145 major metropolitan areas and in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Canada, Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand and The Pacific Rim.

In total, ALFA's firms have a network of approximately 7,250 lawyers and solicitors. These attorneys handle both litigation and transactional matters. Their practices cover the gamut of every legal specialty. The Association is one of the largest legal organizations in the world.

ALFA members strongly believe in client education, feeling that the best client for a member firm is one who is fully aware of, educated in, and conversant with the issues surrounding the legal matters confronting businesses. Therefore, one of ALFA's mainstream programs is a series of highly substantive, educational seminar programs produced in a very comprehensive fashion, to which clients are invited. There are four to six of these programs annually.

Education does not stop with the clients. Member lawyers also attend these seminar programs in order to transfer information among themselves, to increase the substantive depth of knowledge of the aggregate group, and to have an opportunity to understand directly from the clients the issues that they need them to address.

ALFA has developed groupings of member lawyers into very substantive practice areas. These groups are designed to develop educational programs and further the internal exchange of important information.

The organization is designed to help its members offer uniform quality legal services worldwide. It does not engage in the practice of law, set or collect legal fees, seek or obtain confidential or proprietary information from its members, nor does it compensate any member for services, or limit the right of any member firm to refer any legal matter to a nonmember of ALFA. The By-Laws prohibit any member firm from engaging in any activity in violation of Canons of Ethics or Rules of Professional Conduct.
