Kayla Riera-Gomez Honored at CGBA President's Ball

On Saturday October 6, 2012, the Coral Gables Bar Association held its 61st Annual President’s Ball. The gala event was hosted at the beautifully renovated historic Coral Gables Country Club and was attended by attorneys, judges and community leaders, including Mayor Jim Cason of the City of Coral Gables.

“I have been involved with this venerable organization for the past few years, and it was a surprise and an honor to receive the Past President’s Award,” said Ms. Kayla Riera-Gomez, an attorney at Fowler White Burnett. “The Association has been doing great things in the community and I am looking forward to this year.” Past President Bruce M. Bounds presented Ms. Riera-Gomez with the award.

The Coral Gables Bar Association, founded in 1952, is an organization of attorneys who join together to promote education, professionalism and charity. The 2012 President’s Ball featured keynote speaker documentary filmmaker Billy Corben, known for “Cocaine Cowboys,” “The U,” which is about the University of Miami football team, and the recently released film “Broke,” about professional athletes’ financial difficulties. Corben’s speech was met by laughter from the sold-out crowd of two-hundred, particularly when he asked the Mayor, “I have my pickup truck parked outside, is that going to be ok?”

The directors and officers were sworn into office by Judge Celeste Hardee Muir and presented with certificates of appreciation by Mayor Cason. Ms. Riera-Gomez was also sworn in as president-elect. Said 2012-2013 president Jane Muir “I am grateful to have been selected to lead this organization, and it is the support of people like Kayla, who have a commitment to excellence and to community service, that have made this a spectacular event."
