  • Fowler White Burnett announced today that Super Lawyers has named 8 of its attorneys 2016 “Florida Super Lawyers and an additional 3 of its attorneys have been selected as 2016 “Florida Rising Stars.”

    Super Lawyers honors attorneys who have obtained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement within their practice area. The Rising Stars list is comprised of attorneys who are 40 years old or younger and have been in practice for 10 years or less.

    Only up to five percent of lawyers in the state of Florida can be recognized as Super Lawyers, while less than three percent are named Rising Stars. Both Super Lawyers and Rising Stars are selected based on a patented selection process, which includes nominations by clients or firm, extensive research on the candidates and peer reviews.

    Stephen F. Coxhead has been identified by independent research with client and peers as being amongst the world’s leading Transport Lawyers by Who’s Who Legal:  Transport 2017 in Aviation Contentious, one of four categories that make up the Transport 2017 section.

    Since 1996, Who’s Who Legal has identified the foremost legal practitioners in multiple areas of business law and has featured over 17,000 of the world’s leading private practice lawyers from over 100 national jurisdictions.  Published by Law Business Research, Ltd., an independent London-based publishing group, they provide research, analysis and reports on the international legal services marketplace. 

    Coxhead is a shareholder in the Aviation practice group at Fowler White Burnett.  With a laser focus on issues important to the aviation industry, Coxhead has represented manufacturers of aircraft, airframes and component parts in cases arising from crashes throughout the world involving general aviation and commercial aircraft. He has achieved particular success in obtaining dismissals on forum non conveniens grounds and in winning summary judgment under the General Aviation Revitalization Act.

    In addition to the firm’s Aviation practice group, Coxhead is also a member of Fowler White Burnett’s Commercial Litigation, Maritime, and Products Liability & Toxic Torts practice groups where he has broad experience as a litigator practicing in the defense of manufacturers in product liability and complex commercial matters. He has successfully handled numerous mass casualty, wrongful death, electrocution and amputation injury cases – receiving several industry awards recognizing the results he achieved for clients.

    Gil O. Acevedo is a shareholder in the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group.  Acevedo’s practice involves representation of clients in connection with commercial and residential real estate transactions, relating to the purchase and sale of office buildings, shopping centers, apartment buildings, gas stations, vacant land, condominium units, townhomes, and single-family homes, in addition to short-sale transactions.  Acevedo also assist clients through the complex process of commercial real estate finance, including acquisition lending, refinance and mortgage modifications.

  • Christopher E. Knight was elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates and its Miami chapter in July 2009. ABOTA is a national organization that encourages improvement in the ethical and technical standards in the legal profession. Membership is by invitation-only and is subject to vote by the national chapter. Candidates must possess a high personal character, an honorable reputation and extensive experience as a trial attorney.
