Matthew Valcourt focuses his practice on maritime law, specifically litigation and transactional matters involving commercial vessels and pleasure boats. As a Board Certified attorney with more than 15 years of legal experience and a first-hand perspective of the maritime industry, Matthew brings considerable insight to his practice.
He handles all types of marine-related litigation, including commercial disputes, liens and vessel seizures, cargo damage, collisions, and salvage and wreck removal. From his service with the U.S. Merchant Marine and educational background, Matthew understands the shipping business and is able to skillfully resolve transportation-related disputes. In addition, Matthew has significant experience with the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims filed by passengers, crew members and offshore workers.
On the transactional side, Matthew is involved with negotiation and drafting of contracts related to construction, purchase, sale and vessel financing. He also drafts bills of lading, contracts of carriage for passengers, service contracts, terminal agreements and general commercial agreements.
