A native of South Florida, J. Michael (Mike) Pennekamp earned his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College and his Juris Doctor from Florida State University College of Law. Thereafter, he served as a Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Peter T. Fay of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Upon entering private practice in 1994, Mr. Pennekamp joined Fowler White Burnett. He developed his trial skill in State and Federal Court early in his career while focusing his practice primarily on maritime and aviation civil litigation matters involving personal injury, wrongful death, property damage and contract disputes. Since then, Mr. Pennekamp’s maritime and aviation practices have expanded and he now provides counsel to clients on virtually every aspect of the maritime and aviation industries. Mr. Pennekamp presently serves as outside counsel to several international and domestic marine and airline passenger and cargo carriers and related companies assisting them with transactions, international and domestic regulatory compliance and administrative actions while maintaining a heavy litigation practice.

Mr. Pennekamp is a member of the Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida. He is an active member of the Fort Lauderdale Mariner’s Club, the Marine Industries of South Florida, the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the International Association of Marine Investigators.

Mr. Pennekamp is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell and is the Chair of Fowler White Burnett’s Insurance Practice Group.
